The horary astrologer is the practitioner to consult when life's events make no sense: you are unable to see the wood for the trees or you have reached a crossroads; far better to know the pitfalls and propensities that lie ahead in order to choose the appropriate course of action.

The Hierarchy in Astrology of the Tradition

Astrology is multi-faceted and comprises of numerous layers, all serving to make the study (and application) of this craft inexhaustible and fascinating. Contrary to modern teachings, a hierarchy exists in the classical teachings of the Tradition of astrology, and all of these pertain to 'subjects fit to be judged' as laid down by traditional authorities.

Based on this hierarchy, it is not a prerequisite that a student has any astrological background when commencing traditional studies; it is preferred that the mind is uncluttered and uncorrupted by other branches of astrology. The student of astrology enters from the bottom and works his way up as his knowledge and understanding of the craft grows.

Horary Astrology

Horary is the art of drawing specific answers to specific questions from an astrological chart set for the time the question is asked. It is quick, simple and effective, providing concrete, verifiable answers. In ancient times, man was more interested in the practical side of life and was less enthusiastic about delving into the psyche; it is quite appropriate to deduce that ancient man was, in many ways, less self-absorbed than his modern brothers.

An astrologer would set the chart for the day, seat himself at his workstation, and in the case of William Lilly, the leading 17th century astrologer, spend the day assisting his clients queued outside his home. This assistance was derived from the methodology of horary astrology and if the astrologer repeatedly sent the farmer to look for his missing cow in places where there was no cow to be found, we would have to deduce that our forefathers were seriously stupid in raising astrologers to the level they did.

In traditional astrology there are set methodologies and set parameters within which the astrologer applies his skill. This does not mean that he will always be right: although the craft is infallible, the astrologer is not, but the efficacy of the craft, applied with discretion and skill, ensures that in modern times, just as in the days of olde, answers to pressing questions, which the natal chart and modern branches of astrology cannot provide, can be derived.

It is not only the speed and economy of effort that makes horary the mainstay of traditional practice, for most enquires it is the most appropriate tool; the ancient art of horary can most certainly make a difference in a modern world.

The Application

At the right moment, the client contacts the astrologer; very often he has been pondering his dilemma for a long time and it is no coincidence that he contacts the astrologer on the day he chooses to do so. The astrologer ensures that the questions are fully understood, requesting background information if necessary; he then sets the chart and commences with the delineation.

It is important to state that whether the client believes in astrology, or specifically in horary astrologer, or not, has no impact on the derived answers; the astrologer is able to provide those answers independent of the client's belief system. It is not necessary to meet with the astrologer: the usual mode of communication with regards to horary consultations is via email.

It is at this stage that we must never forget that we have free will, and that astrology cannot make us do anything; how the information gleaned from the chart is used, is up to the individual.

The Questions

Horary can be applied to any (and all) facets of life: everything that exists on earth is to be found in the chart. In my practice I do not accept third party questions as this borders on voyeurism, an example being, 'is my best friend having an affair'; if the matter in question has no immediate bearing on the client's life, it is a third party question.

What we call fourth-form questions cannot be asked: we cannot ask of the chart 'does God exist', or 'is astrology accurate' - a moment's reflection on why this is should provide the reason.

Horary is used to locate lost objects or missing people; to track currency and commodities; to establish whether or not it is prudent to enter into a relationship with another person, be that on a personal or business level; to monitor investments; to determine whether or not a buyer will be secured for a property; to employ staff; to obtain a prognosis for illness; to determine if death is imminent if someone is ill and you need to make emergency plans relating to that; to determine the best time to undergo surgery - the list is endless.

It is important to note that while horary is seen primarily as a tool for prediction, its greater value lies not in its ability to forecast the outcome of any situation, but in its ability to provide a clear and succinct analysis of that situation; this enables the client to make the correct decisions pertaining to his situation because he has all the facts on hand.

Conclusion

Astrology is a practical craft and should be used in the manner for which it was intended: to provide us with a road map so that we are able to choose the most appropriate fork in the road and to commence our journey on the most fortuitous path, at the most opportune time at the outset.

Horary astrology is the methodology which provides that road map for the daily, practical questions which weave through the more profound aspects of our lives. In today's society there is an expert available for you to consult for every medical condition, addiction and psychological malaise.

The horary astrologer is the practitioner to consult when life's events make no sense: you are unable to see the wood for the trees or you have reached a crossroads; far better to know the pitfalls and propensities that lie ahead in order to choose the appropriate course of action.
