Written by Jacqueline Brook

Throughout history, end-of-the-world movements missing their mark number in the "hundreds of thousands at the very least”, says Richard Landes, historian at Boston University and director of its Centre for Millennial Studies. But people eager for the world to end are not to be denied, and this time, of course, all will be different.

Man, for some strange reason, often appears to be more interested in when his planet and the human species will end, as opposed to nurturing it (and others). We do not have the power to save the planet nor to end its life, but we most certainly do have the power to make our stay here more pleasurable, meaningful and educational. The frenzy that surrounds prophecies, theories and conjectures surrounding the end of the world is as old as the species of man, one can only wonder why this is as it makes no rational (or spiritual) sense at all.

I request that all readers of this month's Astrological Misconception kindly refer to the highly informative article at the following link, prior to reading the paragraphs below: http://www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/features/2012-guest.html

For the past three years I have been asked by many people what I thought would happen in 2012. Initially I looked at them stupidly as I don't address forecasts years in advance and wondered what they knew that I didn't – it turns out not much! I have never subscribed to conspiracy theories and avoid them at all costs; when I investigated the furore over 2012, my reaction was incredulous.

From an astrological perspective the earth does not have a natal chart, so no one can predict its demise (or its enlightenment), which the incorrect predictions through the ages have proved. To apply planetary movement in 2012 to the earth as an entity is purely abstract: for planet's to have any metaphorical bearing on something, they have to connect with that specific natal chart. Trying to reach conclusions of how 2012 planetary movement will affect the earth as a whole is a complete waste of time and serves no purpose: it would merely be supposition.

I have better things to do with my time, as do you I am sure, especially if we only have approximately 2 years left to live, or we become so enlightened that normal daily routine which is pleasurable, such as writing this newsletter, will become redundant. From a spiritual perspective, I defer to the wisdom of Acts 1:6-7.
